In UI design, color is one of the crucial elements that can affect the visual impression and user experience in using a product or application. The appropriate use of color can help improve readability, create desired impressions, and provide better visual comfort for users. However, one thing to consider is the use of pure black (#000000) color in UI design.

The use of pure black color in UI design is often considered a safe option and provides strong contrast in design. However, using pure black color on a white background can cause visual discomfort for users. The sharp contrast between pure black and pure white can strain the eyes of users, especially when they are looking at the screen for an extended period, particularly when reading text on the screen.

So, what’s the solution?

To avoid using pure black color, dark gray color can be a better alternative. Colors such as #1B1B1B, #333333, or #424242 have lower brightness than pure black, which can reduce eye strain for users. Furthermore, the appropriate selection of color should be adjusted to the design context and usage objectives to be more effective.
